Some of the world’s most fascinating films remain inaccessible for a simple reason: nobody ever translated them. Translate Every Movie is a workflow developed by Ed Glaser to make films, interviews, and archival recordings understandable across language barriers—refined through real-world use.
Existing subtitling tools are largely designed for users who already understand the source language. Translate Every Movie is designed for the opposite situation: creating subtitles when the user does not. It combines open-source dialogue isolation and speech recognition with custom-built applications for intelligent transcription repair and context-aware translation. Human review and targeted reprocessing complete the process, making previously inaccessible media available for study, research, and discovery when professional translation is not a practical option.
To date, the workflow has been used to create English subtitles for 16 films across eight languages. Although the process has already proven effective in practice, the long-term goal is to develop it into a unified application that can help archives, researchers, and cultural institutions unlock media that would otherwise remain out of reach. Ed Glaser is actively interested in partnerships that could help refine, test, and expand the project.
